![]() The presence of the legendary George Clinton fails to lift 'Speed Dreamin'', and even Snoop Doggy Dogg sounds drab on 'Yo' Sassy Ways'. Most of Warren G's production is lifeless and tame, and the vocals are generally equally unmemorable. 'Lookin' At You', Dr Dre's contribution, has an urgent driving feel, but it's all downhill from there on in. The intro on 'The Return of the Regulator' confirms that the sound remains the same - slow, "tasteful" G-funk. It was enough to confirm Warren G's status as part of the Long Beach trinity with Dr Dre and Snoop Doggy Dogg. It was, to be honest, a patchy effort, but 'Regulate' and 'This DJ' were irresistible anthems, two tracks that went far beyond the typical sound of West Coast funk. I have one tape, 'Regulate.G Funk Era' by Warren G, and I must have listened to it a hundred times. A seedy flat in a crumbling apartment block.
